OGDEN - The Weber State football team wrapped up spring football with the annual Purple and White Game Saturday night at Stewart Stadium and it was the defense that led the way in the approximately 110-play scrimmage.

After a 20-minute lightning delay the scrimmage began under the lights and it was the defense that made some noise for the Wildcats.

WSU recorded four interceptions with red-shirt freshman Roman Valenzuela recording two pick.  Another red-shirt freshman, Devonte Johnson, had another pick of 25-yards and David James had a 45-yard interception, both nearly returned for touchdowns.

"I thought the defense kind of controlled the game and showed a lot of positives," said WSU head coach John L. Smith.  "The defense has been playing well all spring and really performed well tonight.

On the offensive side the 'Cats still had some good performances as they recorded over 250 yards.  C.J. Tuckett had totaled 95 yards on 11 carries, including a 55-yard run.  Josh Booker had 15 carries for 89 yards and a touchdown and Barrinton Collins had 44 yards rushing.

Junior quarterback Jordan Adamczyk finished the day 19-31 for 202 yards and a pair of touchdowns, despite throwing a pair of interceptions.  Tyler Parson finished 5-12 for 44 yards and also had two touchdowns.

On the receiving side Shaydon Kehano finished with three catches for 65 yards.  Xavian Johnson and Erik Walker each recorded four receptions and several other Wildcats had catches.

"We had some bad mistakes tonight and we have a lot of things we need to learn from," Smith said.  "I like our group and I think we accomplished a lot this spring but there is still work to do this summer."

The Wildcats will now prepare for the 2012 football season which will begin Sept. 1 at Fresno State.
