Wildcats drop final two matches at USU Invite

LOGAN, Utah - After capturing a victory in their season opener on Friday, the Wildcats came up a little short against a pair of in-state rivals on Saturday to wrap up the Utah State Invitational.
In the first match of the day, the Weber State University women's volleyball team had 25 kills, but also 25 errors, as it hit .000 in a 25-17, 25-13, 25-23 loss to the University of Utah on Saturday afternoon at Utah State's Smith Spectrum.
Sophomore Audrey Biggs had seven kills and seven digs for the Wildcats, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Utes.
Weber State did have another solid blocking match, recording 11 team blocks. Freshman Mariah Katoa and junior Briana Wilms each had six blocks and five kills for the Wildcats.
Freshman setter Whitney Hunt had 12 assists and a service ace, while senior libero Laurel Bodily had 11 digs.
Utah was led by Chelsey Schofield's 10 kills and 10 digs. As a team, the Utes hit .206.
In the nightcap, the Wildcats fell in straight sets to the tournament hosts.
Led by Josselyn White's 11 kills, Utah State defeated Weber State 25-17, 25-11, 25-20 to wrap up the two-day tournament.
The Wildcats fell to 1-2 on the young season with the loss, while the Aggies improved to 3-1.
Biggs again led Weber State with nine kills and three blocks, while Katoa had seven kills and a pair of blocks.
Hunt had 14 assists and a service ace against the Aggies.
Bodily was named to the all-tournament team for the Wildcats.
Weber State will return to action next weekend at the Cougar Challenge, hosted by Washington State University in Pullman, Wash. The Wildcats will face Seattle, Alabama State, and the host Cougars during the two-day tournament.
