OGDEN – The Weber State volleyball team dropped a five-set thriller 3-2 to Idaho State Wednesday night at the Swenson Gym. The 'Cats held a 2-1 lead but ISU rallied for the 25-19, 20-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-8 victory.

Idaho State never trailed in winning the first set 25-19 as the Bengals hit .370 in the set. The Wildcats had a strong second set to even the match and pulled out an exciting 25-23 win in the third set to take a 2-1 lead. The third set saw a total of 13 ties.

Idaho State hit .351 in the fourth set with 17 kills and just four errors to force a deciding five set.  In the fifth set ISU held a 5-4 lead before going on a 6-0 run and never looked back.

The Wildcats had a strong blocking night, recording 16 total blocks, compared to 13 for Idaho State. WSU hit .124 for the match and had 13 service errors.

“I thought we played better for longer periods of times against a good team  tonight, “ said WSU head coach Tom Peterson. “I thought we frustrated them with some things we did but they came back and finished in the end. We took some steps forward tonight but we still have to play better. We have to learn to do the things that can get it done and not make mistakes under pressure.”

Rebecca Fuchs and Audrey Biggs each recorded 14 kills to lead the Wildcats. Fuchs also had eight digs and Biggs added three blocks. Freshman Megan Bean recorded eight blocks, including three solo blocks. Audrey Hunter had seven kills and seven blocks and Mariah Kahawaii added six kills.

The loss drops the Wildcats to 5-16 overall and 1-6 in Big Sky action. WSU wraps up a four-game hosting Sacramento State Friday at 7 p.m. at the Swenson Gym.
