Weber State introduces new athletics logos

Wildcat men's track adds 16 athletes

OGDEN - Weber State men's track and field coach Dan Walker has announced the signing of 16 athletes to join the WSU program. A total of 11 of the 16 athletes signed are from Utah.

The Wildcats have signed Jamal Boma, Ryan Carlson, Marcus Daley, Bren Durfee, Seth Fortin, Tyson Green, Anthony Gregory, Adam Lewis, Preston Johnson, Tyler Kendell, Joe Maloney, Mika Mason, Mitch Mordaunt, Christian Weidle and Andrew Whetten to join WSU for the 2013-14 school year.

“We had 10 athletes graduate last year and several others leave on missions so we had lots of spots to fill,” Walker said. “We feel this signing class will help fill those vacancies.”

Jamal Boma graduated from Cyprus High School but is originally from Africa. He is currently attending Iowa Central Junior college and was a junior college All-American in cross country. He posted a career best time of 14:35 in the 5,000 meters and 30:20 in the 10,000 meters.

Ryan Carlson comes to Weber State from Twin Falls, Idaho where he graduated from Twin Falls High School. Carlson will perform in the high jump and decathlon at Weber State. He has a career best high jump of 6-08. He is the son of Jason and Karla Carlson.

Marcus Daley joins the Wildcat program from Kaysville, Utah where he graduated from Davis High School. He has career best marks of 6-07 in the high jump and 23-07 in the long jump. He plans to serve an LDS Church mission prior to attending Weber State.

Bren Durfee comes to Weber State from Grantsville, Utah and Grantsville High School. Durfee has posted career best times of 49.62 in the 400 meters and 22.71 in the 200 meters. He also plans to serve a mission prior to enrolling at Weber State. He is the brother of current WSU athlete Dustin Durfee. His parents are Chad and Jill Durfee.

Seth Fortin is a sprinter who joins the Wildcats out of Kaysville, Utah and Davis High School. He has posted career best times of 10.80 in the 100 meters and 21.80 in the 200 meters. He is the son of Florentino and Cindy Fortin.

Tyson Green is a distance runner who comes to Weber State from American Fork, Utah. Green graduated from American Fork High School and earned All-State honors in cross country. He has run the 1,600 meters in a time of 4:23 and the 3,200 meters in a time of 9:27. He plans to serve and LDS Church mission prior to attending Weber State.

Anthony Gregory is a graduate of Roy High School in Roy, Utah and will come to WSU as a high jumper. Gregory is the Roy High school record holder in the high jump with a mark of 6-10, breaking the school record of former Weber State athlete Doug Fullmer, who became a seven foot high jumper at WSU. He is the son of Mark Gregory and Tabitha Brown.

Adam Lewis is joining the WSU track and field program and the football program. He is a native of Meridian, Idaho and graduated from Rocky Mountain High School. He is the Idaho state champion in the discus and has a career best mark of 180-05 in the discus, the best throw in the state of Idaho. He has also posted a mark of 54-03 in the shot put. Lewis will be a freshman with the Wildcat football team this fall and will join the track and field team in December. He is the son of Darby and Carla Lewis .

Preston Johnson comes to Weber State from Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah, one of three Davis Darts signed by the Wildcats. Johnson earned All-State honors in cross country as a junior and on the track he has posted career best times of 4:19 in the 1,600 meters and 9:28 in the 3,200 meters. He is the son of Wesley and Janice Johnson.

Tyler Kendell is a graduate of Layton High School in Layton, Utah and has posted a career best mark of 6-07 in the high jump. He also had a time of 14.92 in the 110 meter hurdles and 41.36 in the 300 meter hurdles. He is the son of Keith and Janet Kendell.

Joe Maloney joins the Wildcats from Durango, Colo., where he graduated from Durango High School. He was the 4A state champion in the 800 meters, posting a time of 1:54.61. He also placed in the mile at the state meet with a time of 4:18. He is the son of Murdoch and Melissa Maloney.

Mika Mason joins the program from Richfield, Utah, a graduate of Richfield High School. He was a two-time state champion in the 400 meters and has posted a career best time of 49.42 in the event. Mason is the son of Scott and Cinda Mason.

Ammon Mitchell is a state champion hurdler who comes to Weber State from Blanding, Utah. He graduated from San Juan High School and was a three-time state champion in the 110 meter hurdles. He posted a career best time of 14.53 in the event, which is a state record. He is the son of Joseph and Alyn Mitchell.

Mitch Morduant comes to Weber State from Weber High School and is a native of North Ogden, Utah. He was a two-time state champion in the 300 meter hurdles, with a career best time of 38.48. He has a personal best time of 14.76 in the 110 meter hurdles. He is the son of Shawn and Leslie Mordaunt.

Christian Weidle is transferring to Weber State from Dixie State College where he played football. He is a native of Salt Lake
City and graduated from Judge Memorial High School. In high school he won the state title in the 200 meters with a time of 21.81 and has posted a career best time of 10.87 in the 100 meters. He is the son of Mark and Kari Weidle.

Andrew Whetten comes to Weber State from Atlanta and attended high school in San Antonio, Texas. He is a middle distance runner with a career best time of 1:54.84 in the 800 meters. He is the son of Robert and Claire Whetten. His father Robert was a distance runner at Weber State.
