Wildcat volleyball drops two at Wolf Pack Invite

RENO, Nev. – The Weber State University women's volleyball team was unable to keep its early season momentum going as the Wildcats dropped a pair of matches to open the Wolf Pack Invitational on Friday.
Weber State fell in consecutive straight-set losses to tournament host Nevada and UC Davis at Virginia Street Gym.
Against the Wolf Pack, the Wildcats' fell 25-22, 31-29, 25-20 despite outgaining Nevada in nearly every statistical category.
Junior outside hitter Audrey Biggs led Weber State with 10 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Rebecca Fuchs added eight kills for the Wildcats, but it wasn't enough to overcome unforced errors in the serving aspect of the match.
Freshman middle blocker Megan Bean had five blocks, sophomore setter Whitney Hunt had 28 assists and junior libero McKay Tarbox had 14 digs.
Weber State committed 10 service errors and eight receiving errors, more than making the difference in what was a razor-close match.
After dropping a tight first set, the Wildcats stormed out to a 10-1 lead in the second set and led 20-12, but were unable to close it out and the Wolf Pack rallied to ultimately take the set 31-29 and a 2-0 lead in the match.
Weber State held a 16-15 lead in the third set as they tried to rally, but Nevada scored seven straight points to take a 22-16 lead and the Wildcats could get no closer than three before the Wolf Pack closed out the set.
Against the Aggies, the Wildcats fell 25-17, 25-15, 25-21, falling behind early in all three sets.
Biggs had eight kills to lead Weber State, but no other player had more than five.
As a team, the Wildcats hit a season-low .045 in the match.
Weber State will be back in action for day two of the Wolf Pack Invitational, taking on Illinois State and Grand Canyon on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
