MISSOULA, Mont. -- A strong second half pushed the Montana Grizzlies passed the Weber State women's basketball team Saturday afternoon in Missoula, 68-52.
Sophomore guard Desiree Ramos scored 17 points to lead the Wildcats on 7-for-20 shooting from the floor. Two of those seven field goals were three pointers.
Weber State went to the halftime break down by only one point, but Montana rallied in the second half to pull away for good. The Grizzlies outscored the Wildcats, 40-25 in the second half.
The Wildcats fall to 0-10 on the road with the loss and have now lost nine games in a row in what has been a tough conference stretch. Saturday's matchup at Montana was the fourth game of a four-game road trip that included games at Southern Utah, Idaho State, Montana State and finally Montana.
The Cats shot 37.5 percent in the first half, but Montana's stout defense held Weber State to only 30 percent shooting in the second half.
The Grizzlies also held a huge advantage from the free throw line where the Cats only went 11-for-26. Meanwhile Montana went 22-for-25 from the stripe.
Montana won the battle in the paint, scoring 22 points down low to the Wildcat's 16, but the Grizzlies also outrebounded Weber State, 41-37. Montana also had eight blocks to Weber State's one.
Ramos was the only Wildcat in double figures while the Grizzlies had three double-digit scorers Saturday. They were led by guard Torry Hill who scored 19 points in the contest. Right behind Hill was guard Kellie Cole who added 17 points.
Every Wildcat that got minutes got at least one rebound, but the balanced effort on the boards wasn't enough to overcome the Grizzlies' depth inside.
Weber State will now finally return home to the Dee Events Center for a Thursday night game with Northern Arizona. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
