OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State women's volleyball team took a break from conference play on Tuesday night as they traveled to take on in-state rival Utah Valley University. The Wildcats dominated the Wolverines in four sets, 25-22, 26-28, 25-18, 25-17, to pick up their first win against UVU since 2008.

The win improves the Wildcats record to 6-14, 2-4 in Big Sky Conference play. They also improved to 5-2 in four set matches.

“I thought we played a pretty even match, even in the one set we lost,” WSU head coach Tom Peterson said. “We reacted well when they made some great plays and the game of momentum is much more on our side right now. We are getting better and it shows as we just beat a couple of good teams.”

Audrey Biggs once again led the team in kills, with a match-high of 22, but it was Taylor Christensen that stole the show. Christensen's 47 assists, 9 digs, 6 blocks, and 5 kills performance was a thing of beauty. The Wolverines had no answer for Christensen as she was able to find her teammates as she pleased. Amanda Varley started the match off on fire as she had 7 kills in the first set and finished with a total of 13. Samantha Staker continued her improved play as she also reached double figures with 11 kills.

“Taylor had a great match and it seemed like she was really intent on making sure that we beat that team tonight,” Peterson said. “She is only a freshman and if she can continue to develop the way she is. She is going to be a really good player for us.”

With 5 blocks tonight, Audrey Hunter moved up to #9 on the career block assists with a total of 259 in her career. Megan Thompson added 4 blocks and 5 kills, while Thamires Cavalcanti had 7 digs, 5 assists, and tied for a team-high 2 service aces.

The Wildcats will return home as they will host Northern Colorado on Thursday, October 16th for Girl Scout Night. The first serve is set for 7 p.m. at Swenson Gym. A free live stream of the match will be available on BigSkyTV or Watch Big Sky app.
