OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State women's volleyball took to the court again on Thursday night as they hosted the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona. But it was the Big Sky leading Lumberjacks who walked away with a three-set victory, 25-16, 25-17, 25-18.
The loss drops the Wildcats record to 6-15, 2-5 in Big Sky Conference play.
The Lumberjacks controlled every set as there was only two lead changes throughout the whole match. But Amanda Varley didn't let the Wildcats early struggles keep her down as she lead the team with a match-high 8 kills. Audrey Biggs had a tough time getting into any type of rhythm but managed 7 kills and 5 digs. Taylor Christensen had a team-high 25 assists with 5 digs and Megan Thompson had 5 kills and 4 blocks.
McKay Tarbox's 21 digs tonight moved her into ninth on the all-time career digs list with a total of 988. She will enter tomorrow's match just 12 digs short of becoming the ninth Wildcat to have over 1,000 digs in their career. It was the second consecutive home match that Tarbox had more than 20 digs.
“Compliments to Northern Arizona as they are probably the most consistent team in our league,” WSU head coach Tom Peterson. “I think they are the best team that we have played because it seems like they don't have a lot of weaknesses in any aspects. But for us, we didn't prepare mentally after an emotional match earlier this week. We allowed our frustration to hurt the way that we play.”
The Wildcats will host in-state rival Southern Utah tomorrow night as part of Dig for a Cure. All fans are encouraged to wear pink. The first serve is set for 7 p.m.
