OGDEN, Utah -- Weber State women's volleyball head coach Tom Peterson has announced he will resign as coach of the Wildcats, effective immediately.

“I want to thank everyone for the opportunity to coach some great young people here at Weber State University,” Peterson said. “I hope my staff and I have helped to develop some good and enduring life skills for our players.”

Peterson was hired in January 2011 as the ninth head coach in Weber State history. He has more than three decades of collegiate coaching experience in men's and women's volleyball, including capturing two NCAA national championships as the head men's volleyball coach at Penn State University (1994) and Brigham Young University (2004), as well as three national collegiate club championships at BYU (1986, 1987, 1988). He has also spent time as the head women's volleyball coach at the University of New Mexico, Utah State University, and Salt Lake Community College. Just before joining the Wildcats he served as the Associate Head Coach at Utah State.

“I want to thank the fans for their continual support through thick and thin,” Peterson added. “Weber State fans are the best anywhere.”

Peterson was head coach at Weber State for four seasons, compiling a record of 28-98 overall and was 13-59 in Big Sky Conference matches.

“I want to thank Tom for his time coaching at Weber State and wish him nothing but the best in the future,” said Weber State Director of Athletics Jerry Bovee.

A national search for Weber State's next head coach will begin immediately.
