Wildcats fall to Lumberjacks in three sets

OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State women's volleyball traveled to Northern Arizona on Saturday night hoping to end a five-game losing streak. NAU defeated the Wildcats in three sets earlier in the season in Ogden. Both teams entered the match looking to rebound from tough losses on Thursday night.
The Lumberjacks extended the Wildcats losing streak to six with a three-set victory, 32-30, 25-16, 25-16.
The loss drops the Wildcats record to 6-20 overall, 2-10 in Big Sky Conference Play. The loss also marks the sixth consecutive season that the Wildcats have lost 20 or more matches.
The Wildcats were led by Audrey Biggs who had a team-high 11 kills. Megan Thompson was one of three Wildcats with nine kills as the team combined for a total of 42.
Taylor Christensen eclipsed 900 assists on the season with her 37 assists. Christensen and Audrey Hunter gave the Lumberjacks problems at then net with four blocks each.
McKay Tarbox inched closer to making her way up the record books with 11 digs. She now sits one dig short of moving up to seventh on the all-time career digs list. Samantha Staker added eight digs, three kills and one block.
“That first set of the match may have been one of our best all season,” WSU head coach Tom Peterson said. “I also felt that our emotions were even throughout that set but they made some amazing plays to deny us the set. We just continue to be and up and down team.”
The Lumberjacks were able to shut down the Wildcats attack after the back-and-forth first set that saw Biggs have nine of her 11 kills. They had 15 blocks compared to the eight of the Wildcats.
The Wildcats will travel to take on Grand Canyon on Monday, November 3rd before returning to Big Sky play next Thursday. First serve is set for 7p.m.
