Wildcats Defeat Seattle 4-3

BOISE, Idaho -- Weber State used a dominating performance in doubles to pick up its second win of the season on Saturday, as the Wildcats defeated Seattle 4-3 in the second of a two-match road swing at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center at Boise State University.
The Wildcats quickly grabbed the doubles point by taking 6-1 wins in both the No. 1 and 2 doubles matches. Kristi Elmer and Agata Bachanek defeated Barbara Carey and Kelli Woodman at No. 1, while Thais Kurer and Nittaya Phonharath downed Sarah Lucas and Gabriella Weissmann at No. 2. Ashley Tanner and Michelle Warwick also earned a doubles win at No. 3, taking down Anna Lambert and Kristen James 6-4 to give WSU a clean sweep of the competition.
The point proved to be the deciding factor in the match as singles play resulted in a 3-3 split between the two teams.
Tanner scored a 6-3, 6-4 win over Woodman in the No. 3 match, and Bachanek defeated Lambert 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 to give WSU a 3-0 edge overall, but Seattle responded with wins in hte No. 2, 5 and 6 spots to even the score at 3-3.
Thais Kurer closed out the match and gave the Wildcats the win as she defeated Lucas 6-2, 1-6, 10-8 in the No. 4 position.
The Wildcats move to 2-1 on the season with the win.
