PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - On the final day of The Hawk's Holiday Hulabaloo, the Weber State women's volleyball team followed the script from the day before as they split both of their matches.
The Wildcats defeated Fairleigh Dickinson in four sets (25-15, 25-15, 20-25, 25-11) before falling in a hard-fought five set match against Maryland Baltimore Country (21-25, 25-19, 25-20, 18-25, 15-11) to wrap up the tournament.
Senior outside hitter Audrey Biggs was selected to the All-Tournament team after compiling 61 kills, 15 digs, and 12 blocks during the four matches. Sherelle Wallace of UMBC was named the tournament MVP.
The Wildcats record now stands at 2-2.
Against the Knights, Biggs set a new career-high with 21 kills while hitting .432. Biggs was joined in double-digit kills by sophomore outside hitter Ciera Borho who added 12 kills. The team combined for 60 kills which was almost double of the Knights and hit .379.
Redshirt freshman Taylor Christensen had another impressive outing with 37 assists, while sophomore setter Samantha Staker added another 14.
Against the Retrievers, Biggs and Borho once again led the team in kills with 15 and 12 respectively but it wasn't enough to pull out the win. In the loss a pair of sophomore middle blockers, Megan Thompson and Audrey Hunter, nearly hit double-digits in kills and blocks. Thompson finished with 8 kills and 6 blocks, while Hunter added 9 kills and 5 blocks.
After exchanging the first two sets, the Widcats dominated the third set. They jumped out to an early 16-4 in the third set, which was just too much for the Retrievers to overcome.
After tying the match at two sets apiece, the Retrievers jumped out to an 9-3 lead in the fifth and final set. The Wildcats slowely got themselves back into the match but it was too little too late.
The Wildcats will return to action next Friday, September 5th, as they take on Houston Baptist as part of the Air Force Invitational. The first serve is set for 5:00 p.m.
