Wildcats fall 69-63 to Portland State

Wildcats rebound with 67-60 win at North Dakota

Weber State got back on the winning track with a 67-60 victory over North Dakota Thursday night in Grand Forks, N.D. The win snapped Weber State's three-game losing streak and improved the Wildcats to 9-11 overall and 4-5 in Big Sky play.

There were seven lead changes and eight ties in the game.North Dakota led by as many as six points early in the first half but the Wildcats rallied back and held a 30-26 lead at halftime. UND started the second half on a 15-6 run and led by five early in the second half.

Each team made runs but the Weber State regained the lead for good at 52-50 with 6:20 to play. WSU was 9 for 10 from the free throw line in the final five minutes.  

“We hung in there tonight and I was really proud of our team,” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. “They really fought and competed hard. We played great defense tonight and made enough plays at the end. This was a tough game where we had to fight and stay together and we were able to do that tonight.”

The Wildcats finished the game 19-of 21 from the free throw line, compared to 6-of-8 shooting for UND. For the game North Dakota shot 41 percent with the Wildcats shooting 40 percent. WSU was 6-of-20 from 3-point land. WSU outrebounded North Dakota 38-31, despite UND leading scoring in the paint 38-10.

Sophomore Jeremy Senglin continued his hot play and led the Wildcats with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting. He also added five rebounds for the Wildcats and scored in double figures for the 10th straight game. Richaud Gittens added 14 points, six rebounds and three assists and Joel Bolomboy had 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Ryan Richardson had seven points off the bench.  

The Wildcats improved to 7-0 all-time against North Dakota (6-13, 2-6), including a 3-0 record in Grand Forks. It was just the second road win for the Wildcats this season.

Weber State continues its road trip Saturday night at Northern Colorado.
