OGDEN, Utah – Weber State women's basketball team couldn't catch up to Montana State Thursday night and fell 60-49.
The Bobcats came out and controlled most of the first half. Montana State went on a 9-0 run increasing their lead 17-6 with 7:35 left in the half. The Wildcats couldn't get anything going offensively and trailed 26-17 at half time.
Montana State carried the momentum into the second half. The Bobcats maintained an 11 point lead the majority of the half and ended the game with a final score of 60-49.
“We didn't have a good start tonight,” head coach Bethann Ord said. “Every team is going to have adversity at the end of the season. With that adversity we have to handle business. We didn't do that tonight and now there's added pressure. It's going to be a tough grind from here on out.”
The Wildcats had two players in double figures. Weber State was led by sophomore Deeshrya Thomas. Thomas had a season high of 11 points. She also had four assists and three steals. Junior Regina Okoye had 10 points and three steals. Kailie Quinn and Tinisha Toussaint led the Wildcats in rebounding pulling down four each.
Weber State shot 43.2 percent from the field, 40 percent from the three and 69.2 percent from the free throw line. Montana State outrebounded Weber State 33-21. The Bobcats had 25 turnovers to Weber State's 21.
“We need to do a better job getting into our offensive flow,” Ord said. “We need to tighten up the little things. We need to take care of ourselves and play the game I know we can play.”
Montana State shot 46.8 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from beyond the arc and 92.3 percent from the free throw line. The Bobcats were led by Peyton Ferris who had 12 points. Kalli Durham led Montana State in rebounding pulling down nine.
“Tonight we just didn't do the little things,” Thomas said. “It's tough to lose but we just have to shake it off and leave it in the past. We have to move forward and focus on the next game.”
The Wildcats are now 6-8 in Big Sky Conference and 11-14 overall on the season. The last home game of the season will be Saturday February 21 against Montana for senior night where the three seniors, Zakiyyah Shahid-Martin, Carlee Lough and Brianna Averette will be honored.
