OGDEN -- Weber State's first half offensive explosion propelled the Wildcats to a 45-27 win over Montana State Saturday afternoon at Stewart Stadium.
The win gave Weber State its first four-game winning streak and first 3-0 start to Big Sky play since 2008, as the Wildcats improved to 4-2 overall.
The Wildcats had six first half possessions and ended each possession with six touchdowns as they jumped out to a 42-14 halftime lead.
WSU senior quarterback Jadrian Clark started the scoring as he found Cameron Livingston for an 18-yard TD midway through the first quarter. The Wildcats would then score three more touchdowns in the next nine minutes. Three plays later, Weber State's Trey Hoskins recovered an MSU fumble, which set up another WSU touchdown as Clark found Cory Thomson for a five-yard score to make it 14-0.
Montana State fumbled the ensuing kickoff, which the Wildcats recovered and two plays later, Clark found Livingston again for a seven-yard scored to make it 21-0 with 4:29 left in the first quarter.
The Bobcats came back with a touchdown to make it 21-7 after the first quarter, but less than two minutes into the second, Haini Moimoi scored his first career touchdown on a three-yard run to make it 28-7 with 13:21 left in the second quarter.
After another MSU touchdown, Clark connected on his fourth TD of the day as he found Tui Satuala for a 33-yard score. The 'Cats closed the first half on another Moimoi touchdown from two-yards out and took a 42-14 lead at the break.
WSU's only scoring in the second half came on a 35-yard field goal by Taylor Hintze.
The Wildcats had 27 first downs and totaled 435 yards of offense, compared to 378 yards for the Bobcats. WSU had 266 yards passing and 169 yards rushing.
Weber State also recovered four MSU turnovers with interceptions by Elias Miller and Xequille Harry and fumble recoveries by Trey Hoskins and Kawika Tupuola.
"That was a crazy start to the game and I can't say enough about how the offense started," Weber State head coach Jay Hill said. "They were very efficient in the first half and had a balance of passing and rushing. I was really proud of our players that stepped in today after some injuries and had some real key contributions from some backup players. Winning the turnover margin was really big for us too."
