MIAMI – Weber State women's basketball has achieved the best start to any season in school history Friday morning when they took down Florida International 64-61 in overtime to give them a 5-0 record.

"We struggled shooting from behind the arc in the first half, but we came out in the second half on the attack on both ends of the court," head coach Bethann Ord said. "Defensively we forced them in 22 of their 27 turnovers. Offensively we got the ball inside and Jocelyn Adams had a terrific game and stepped up big with her double-double. In overtime we kept pushing and found a way to pull out the victory."

The Wildcats had a slow start to the game trailing 21-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats closed the Panthers lead to three early in the second quarter but FIU outscored the Wildcats 10-3 in the last five minutes of the first half. The Wildcats trailed 36-22 at half time.

Weber State came out of half time with guns blazing as they went on an 18-4 run. A steal by Deeshyra Thomas followed by a layup by Yarden Danan tie things up at 40-40 with 3:25 left in the third quarter.

With the momentum in favor of the Wildcats they took a 49-43 lead at the end of the third quarter.

In the last quarter of regulation play WSU had a 55-48 lead with 3:16 left on the clock. FIU found some momentum and went on a 7-0 run to tie things up at 55-55 with just one minute left in the fourth quarter.

Missed opportunities by both teams in the final minute of play forced the game into overtime.

Jocelyn Adams started overtime off with a pair of layups giving WSU a quick four point lead. The Panthers came back and tied things up at 61-61 with 1:20 left in overtime, but another layup by Adams and a made free throw gave WSU the 64-61 win in overtime.

Weber State was led by Adams who dropped 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Danan put up 12 points for the Wildcats. Emily Drake added 11 points for the Wildcats while Kailie Quinn put up 10.

Thomas had six assists helping the Wildcats offensively and pulled down five rebounds.

Weber State shot 21-66 from the field and 18-29 from the free throw line. WSU pulled down 43 rebounds, had 17 assists, 10 steals and 18 turnovers.

Florida International shot 22-58 from the field and 13-17 from the free throw line while pulling down 43 rebounds. FIU had 12 assists, 27 turnovers and nine steals.
