Weber State football freshman defensive end Jonah Williams has been named to the Hero Sports FCS All-Freshman Team, ranking him one of the top freshmen in the country.

Williams was named to the All-Freshman First Team. The Meridian, Idaho, native started all 12 games for the Wildcats on the defensive line and helped the Wildcats to a 7-5 record and their first trip to the FCS Playoff since 2009. Williams recorded 53 tackles with 20 solo tackles and 33 assisted tackles. He also had four tackles for loss, two sacks, two quarterback hurries and one blocked kick on the season. His two sacks both came in WSU's playoff game at Chattanooga.

Weber State led the Big Sky in passing defense in 2016.

Williams joined Weber State in the spring of 2016 after returning from an LDS Church mission to Brazil.

He was one of five players from the Big Sky named to the All-Freshman First Team.
