WSU remains undefeated; takes down The Citadel 3-0

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Weber State volleyball team picked up a three set win over The Citadel Saturday Morning in the last match of the Titan Classic. The Wildcats now have a 6-0 overall record.

"I'm happy for our women," head coach Jeremiah Larsen said. "They are a wonderful group. They have worked so hard to be successfull and they are starting to get a taste of that success. However, we are not done. There are still a lot of things to work on, and we are going to look at our weaknesses and work hard this week at making them strengths."

In the first set of play The Citadel tried to get an early jump on Weber State but the Wildcats tied it up at 9-9. WSU went on to take the lead at 17-13. The score was tied at 25-25 and a kill by freshman Rylin Roberts and a huge block by Andrea Hale gave Weber State the 27-25 first set win.

Weber State started the second set off a little slow but stepped it up halfway through going on a 6-0 run that gave them a 17-9 advantage. The Bulldogs only scored five more points the rest of the set as the Wildcats went on to end the second set on a 4-0 run to claim the 25-14 second set win.

The Wildcats went on another mid set 6-0 run in the third set giving them another 17-9 score and ended the match on another 4-0 run giving them the 25-13 win and the overall 3-0 victory.

Weber State had 38 kills and a .283 hitting percentage to The Citadel's 35 kills and .093 hitting percentage. WSU also only had 10 hitting errors to The Citadel's 25. The Wildcats had seven team blocks to the Bulldogs one.

The Wildcats were led by Roberts who had 11 kills and 22 attacks for a .364 percentage. Andrea Hale and Megan Thompson also put up impressive hitting percentages each hitting .417 on the night. Bailey Irwin had 31 assists on the night and Jesse Hover had 18 digs. Aubrey Saunders had the match high of four total blocks.

Thompson was named the tournamnet's Most Outstanding Player and Varley and Roberts were named to the All-Tournament team.

Weber State is now 6-0 on the season and will next travel to Macomb, Illinois for the Western Illinois Hampton Inn Invite tournament where they will take on Western Illinois, Drake and Southeast Missouri. Weber State's first home game will be Sept. 23 against Sacramento State in the Big Sky opener.
