Wildcats fall 77-74 at Sacramento State

Weber State saw its five-game winning streak snapped with a 77-74 loss at Sacramento State Thursday night in Sacramento. The loss dropped the Wildcats to 14-8 overall and 9-2 in conference play.
"Sacramento State played terrific with urgency and a great edge and we didn't match their edge and toughness in the second half," said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. "We didn't defend and rebound the way we need to on the road and we let our guard down a bit in the second half."
The Hornets led by as many as 12 in the first half before Weber State rallied back to take a 35-34 lead at halftime. The 'Cats led by one at 46-45 with 15:00 to play when Sacramento State went on a 15-2 run over the next seven minutes to take a 12-point lead. Weber State cut the led to one with 2:09 to play. WSU's missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game.
Sacramento State outshot the Wildcats 54 percent to 48 percent and the Hornets beat the Wildcats on the boards 41-26. The Wildcats were 10-of-18 from 3-point range and held the Hornets to just 2-of-9 from 3-point range but Sacramento State outscored the Wildcats 46-26 in points in the paint.
Ryan Richardson led Weber State with 16 points and made four of his five 3-point attempts. Richardson had 14 of his 16 points and all four 3-pointers in the second half.
Dusty Baker added 15 points off the bench and was a perfect 3-of-3 from 3-point land. He scored 12 of his 15 points in the first half.
Jeremy Senglin finished with 11 points and was 4-of-14 from the field, including 1-of-8 from 3-point range. The 11 points was the second fewest of the season for Senglin. He is now two 3-pointers shy of becoming the Big Sky's all-time leader.
Zach Braxton also added 11 points with a game-high five rebounds.
Weber State remains in first place in the Big Sky at 9-2 and now has a half game lead over North Dakota who is 9-3.
The Wildcats continue their road trip at Portland State Saturday night at 8 p.m. MT.
