Weber State defeats Incarnate Word 72-64

Weber State women's basketball took on Incarnate Word this afternoon and after coming from behind defeated the Cardinals 72-64.

WSU started out slow trailing 20-10 after the first quarter. WSU didn't ever back down and went on to outscore the Cardinals 20-15 in the second quarter. Weber State still trailed 35-30 going into halftime.

The Wildcats had a big 16-5 run to start the second half. Weber State put up 24 points in the third quarter to finally take the lead. Going into the final 10 minutes of the game WSU had a 54-45 lead.

WSU's momentum slowed in the fourth quarter and UIW closed a 13 point scoring deficit that brought the score to 62-61. Weber State finished the final two minutes of the game on a 10-4 and pulled out a 72-64 final score.

Weber State was led by Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman who had 18 points going 5-9 from the field and was 3-3 from the three.

Shianne Johnson had 17 points for WSU, Emily Drake added 15 going 8-8 from the free throw line and had the game high of seven assists. Kayla Watkins had 11 points and the game high of rebounds with eight.

WSU shot 38 percent from the field, 39 from the three and 84 from the free throw line. Weber State pulled down 37 rebounds and had 15 assists.

The Wildcats are now 2-1 overall on the season. WSU will next take on Virginia Commonwealth Friday, Nov. 23 in the University of Texas San Antonio Thanksgiving Tournament before taking on tournament host UTSA on Sunday, Nov. 25.
