Weber State football head coach Jay Hill has been named the 2017 Utah Coach of the Year by the Utah Sports Commission as part of the Governor's State of Sport Awards. He will be presented his award by Utah Governor Gary Herbert on April 18.

The Utah Sports Commission hosts the Governor's State of Sport Awards event, which celebrates Utah's sports industry and honors excellence in high school, amateur, collegiate, Olympic and professional sports. This year's award program will take place on Wednesday, April 18 at 7 p.m. at Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City.

During the 2017 season, Hill led Weber State to its best seasons in school history. The Wildcats set a school record by winning 11 games, finishing 11-3 overall. Weber State won the Big Sky title with a 7-1 conference record and advanced to the FCS Playoffs for the second-straight season. Weber State won a school-record two games in the FCS Playoffs, picking up wins over Western Illinois and Southern Utah, before a narrow loss at No. 1 James Madison.

The Wildcats also had eight players that earned All-American honors, the most ever in a season, and had 17 players earn Big Sky All-Conference honors.

Weber State finished the season ranked fifth in the nation, the highest ranking in school history.

Coach Hill has now coached four seasons at Weber State. In his four years, the Wildcats have improved each season and he's led Weber State to back-to-back FCS Playoff appearances for the second time in school history. He has a career record of 26-23 overall and is 20-12 in Big Sky play, which is the best winning percentage in conference games by any coach in WSU history. In the last three seasons, he is 24-13 overall and 18-6 in Big Sky play.

Coach Hill has coached 10 All-Americans at Weber State and has coached 51 players to Big Sky All-Conference honors.
