PHOENIX, Ariz. – Weber State women's tennis season came to a close Friday morning as they fell 4-0 to Northern Arizona in the semifinal round of the Big Sky Conference Championships.
"Today was another great fight against a very good NAU team, but unfortunately we came up just short," said head coach Mark Roberts. "Today's loss ends our 2018 season and I am so proud of my teams effort and improvement over this past year. We had a rough season last year where we lost a lot of close matches, but we grew from the experience and came back much tougher."
Weber State started the match off with very tight doubles matches. NAU claimed the No. 1 spot early but Weber State fought very hard in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots but ultimately fell just barely short in the No. 3 spot.
NAU had the doubles point advantage going into singles play.
In singles action, NAU started by claiming the point in the No. 6 spot first followed shortly by the No. 3 spot.
Weber State was down 3-0 with four matches still to finish.
Morgan Dickason competed very well by picking up a 7-5 win in her first over Madi Moore but NAU clinched the match before Dickason in the No. 5 spot could take the point.
NAU picked up a win in the No. 3 spot to clinch the match.
The Wildcats finished the season with an 11-14 overall record.
"I am so excited to start up again in the fall to keep working with this awesome group of ladies and to see how much more we can achieve as a team," Roberts said. "I push them hard and I love how they never quit and keep coming back for more. A special shout out to my team; You are all great warriors and I can't wait for August 2018. Go Wildcats!"
