Wildcats compete at Utah/WSU Spring Classic

OGDEN - The Weber State men's and women's track and field teams hosted the first of two outdoor meets as the Wildcats competed at the Utah/Weber State Spring Classic. Friday's action were hosted by the University of Utah in Salt Lake City with Saturday's action at Stewart Stadium in Ogden.
The Wildcats battled rainy conditions both days but still managed to post several seasonal best performances.
Friday at Utah
On Friday, the Wildcat women's team won two events. Candace Sharp took home first place in the steeplechase with a time of 10:53.17. The times is the best in the Big Sky this season. Rebecca Wenz won the title in the javelin with a mark of 141-04, which is the fifth best in the league.
Kate Sorenson set a new Weber State freshman record in the 400 hurdles as she finished third in the event with a time of 1:00.30. That time is also the fourth fastest in Weber State history.
Brinn Jensen also finished third in the long jump with a seasonal best mark of 18-10.75, which is tied for the 10th best in WSU history.
On the men's side, the Wildcats had six spots in the top three.
Trey Deveraux finished second in the pole vault with a career best mark of 15-09. That mark is the second best in the conference this season and ranks as the eighth best in WSU history. It is Weber State's best mark in the pole vault in 10 years.
Nick Benham set a new Weber State freshman record in the shot put by posting a mark of 55-04.75. That mark is also the third best in school history.
On the track Colton Rimann was second in the 5,000 meters at 15:28.41 with Cody Glad taking third at 15:37.74.
Seth Fortin was third in the 100 meters at 10.85 and Daunte Atkinson was third in the 400 meters with a time of 48.38.
Saturday at Weber State
On the women's side Saturday at Stewart Stadium, Abbigael Brecht won the high jump with a career best mark of 5-07. That mark is the second best in the conference this season.
Jensen finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 25.1 and Terrell Womack was second in the hammer throw at 161-03.
The Wildcat men's team won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:15.50, which is the best in the conference this season. Caleb Whitney finished second in the 110 meter hurdles at 15.11.
Justin Herbert was second in the hammer throw at 181-04 and Anthony Gregory finished second in the high jump at 6-05.

The Wildcats will next head to the Utah State Invitational next Friday and Saturday in Logan.
