Weber State football team captains announced

Weber State football has named its team captains for the 2018 season. Treshawn Garrett, Brady May, Iosua Opeta, LeGrand Toia and Jonah Williams have been selected as team captains by their teammates.Â
Garrett, a senior running back out of Palmdale, California, earned third-team All-Big Sky honors last season. He enters his senior season ranked 11th in Weber State history in career rushing yards with 1,791 and has 16 career rushing touchdowns.Â
May earned first-team All-America and All-Big Sky honors last season as a special teams player. The Heyburn, Idaho, native also earned All-Big Sky first team honors last season on special teams and as a fullback. He had two rushing touchdowns on the season and had 10 receptions for 108 yards. He is a preseason All-Big Sky and All-America selection. Â
Opeta, a native of Stansbury Park, Utah, native earned first-team All-America honors last season as a member of the Wildcat offensive line. He started all 14 games on the offensive line for the Wildcats last season and also earned All-Big Sky first team honors. Opeta has also been named a preseason All-American. Â
Toia, a senior linebacker from Riverton, Utah, is the only player to repeat as captain. He served as captain last season. Toia earned All-America honors last season after leading the Wildcats in tackles with 79 for an average of 6.1 per game. He was also second on the team in sacks and earned first-team all-conference honors. He is a preseason All-America and All-Big Sky selection.Â
Jonah Williams is the only junior among this year's captains. The Meridian, Idaho native earned All-Big Sky honors last season as a sophomore. He played in all 14 games for the Wildcats as a defensive end and finished second on the team and 10th in the Big Sky in sacks with 5.5. He also had 37 tackles on the season. He is a preseason All-Big Sky selection.
Head coach Jay Hill and the Wildcats are ranked eighth in the nation in the FCS polls. Weber State opens the 2018 season Aug. 30 at Utah, with the home opener set for Sept. 15 against South Dakota.Â
