Wildcats fall 74-64 to Lumberjacks

Weber State women's basketball hung tough in the fourth quarter but couldn't pull out a victory as the Wildcats fell 74-64 to Northern Arizona Thursday night in Flagstaff, Ariz.
The Wildcats kept things close in the first quarter, trailing by only six points. Kayla Watkins had a big first quarter for WSU, scoring eight of the Wildcats' 10 points, including two made shots from beyond the arc.
NAU started the second quarter with a 7-0 run. Weber State gained a little traction and momentum going into halftime as they went on a 5-0 run and held NAU scoreless in the final two minutes of the half.
At halftime, the Wildcats still trailed by 10 with a 35-25 score.
In the fourth quarter, Weber State held NAU to a 2:48 scoring drought and went on a 6-0 run to trail by only six, which was the smallest scoring deficit of the second half. Weber State couldn't find any more momentum after that, though.
Emily Drake led WSU in scoring with 24 points and seven rebounds. Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman was not far behind with 20 points and seven rebounds. Watkins was the third Wildcat to score in double figures and finished with 15 on the night.
The Wildcats shot 36 percent from the field, 20 percent from three and 67 percent from the free throw line. NAU shot 37 percent from the field, 44 percent from the three and 78 percent from the free throw line.
WSU is now 3-10 overall on the season and 0-3 in Big Sky Conference play. Weber State will stay on the road to take on Southern Utah, Saturday, Jan. 5 before returning home to host Idaho State Jan. 10.
