Weber State falls 65-38 to Portland State

Weber State women's basketball dropped a tough one to Portland State Thursday night with a final score of 65-38.
"We played hard and executed offensively and kept them to one shot on the defensive end," said head coach Velaida Harris. "They are an outstanding team and being sound on both ends is required to compete with them."
The Wildcats are now 4-16 overall on the season and 1-8 in Big Sky Conference play.
Weber State had two Wildcats score in double figures. Jaimoni Welch-Coleman and Kayla Watkins each had 10 for WSU.
Dominique Williams was on the brink of a double-double with eight points and the game high rebounds for WSU with nine.
Kayla Watkins started the game off with a smooth made three pointer from the corner to start WSU off on a positive note. Weber State kept up in the first quarter trailing just 15-12 by the end of it.
In the second quarter, neither team made a field goal in the first four minutes. Â The cold streak was finally broken by Kori Pentzer who executed a layup from Emily Drake on a fastbreak play. With just a one second to go in the first half, Welch-Coleman drained a deep three ball at the buzzer to bring the score to 23-22 at the half.
Weber State couldn't maintain any momentum in the third quarter as Portland State took off on a 13-4 run. WSU trailed 47-31 going into the fourth quarter.
The Vikings continued to over power WSU as they ended the game on a 14-2 run and ultimately took a 65-38 victory over Weber State.
"The tale of two halves," Harris said. "The second half we did not stay disciplined defensively. We didn't shoot well all night so to let up on the defensive end is tough. We will get there."
WSU will stay on the road to take on Sacramento State Saturday at 3:00 p.m. MST.
