Josh Davis sets record and leads Wildcats to win over NAU

OGDEN - Weber State running back Josh Davis set a school record with 328 rushing yards and four touchdowns to lead the fourth-ranked Wildcats to a 51-28 win over Northern Arizona Saturday afternoon at a cold, rainy Stewart Stadium.

It's the fourth-straight win for the Wildcats who move to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in Big Sky play.

Davis had 34 carries for 328 rushing yards, breaking the WSU record of 289 yards held by C.J. Tuckett in 2012. The 328 yards is the most yards in a game by any player in any division of NCAA football this season. It's also the fifth-most in a game in Big Sky Conference history.
Davis started the scoring with a 54-yard touchdown less than a minute into the game. Then after an NAU touchdown, he converted on a 44-yard touchdown early in the second quarter. NAU scored twice in the second quarter and held a 21-14 lead at halftime.

The second half was all Weber State as the 'Cats outscored NAU 37-7 and WSU totaled 282 yards of offense in the second half, compared to 114 for NAU.

As a team the Wildcats rushed for 439 total yards, the third most in a game in WSU history. The 'Cats finished with 612 total yards, compared to 375 for the Lumberjacks. Kris Jackson rushed for a career-high 111 yards and had three rushing touchdowns.

Jake Constantine was 16 of 28 passing for 173 yards. The 'Cats played without Kevin Smith and Rashid Shaheed who missed the game due to injuries.

Defensively, Weber State Eddie Heckard had six tackles with one sack, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. George Tarlas had two sacks and the 'Cats recorded nine tackles for loss.

Weber State hits the road for the next two games against nationally-ranked opponents, playing at UC Davis on Oct. 26 and at Sacramento State on Nov. 2.
