OGDEN, UT - The Weber State University women's soccer team played their last home match against Idaho State University this afternoon with a double-overtime 0-0 draw.
The Wildcats honored five seniors: Nikki Pittman, Mia Hill, Megan Price Flitton, Madison Carter, and Afton Barlow Hamblin.
The game was a physical one, and the Wildcats did well to match the Bengal's intensity. Both teams had four shots in the first half, and senior goalkeeper, Nikki Pittman, made some critical saves for the Wildcats. Though the shots taken were equal, Weber State controlled more than half of the possession in the first half. The 'Cats knocked the ball around well, connecting numerous passes in a row and for long periods of time. At the end of the first half, the Wildcats and Bengals were tied at 0-0.
The second half brought more of the same for Weber State and Idaho State. The Wildcats controlled most of the possession, and took four shots to the Bengals' two. Nixie Hernandez, Haley Thomas, and Sadie Noble took shots however, neither team was able to put the ball away. The game was tied 0-0 at the end of regulation play.
Weber State is well acquainted with overtime this season. Seven out of the Wildcat's fifteen matches this season have been forced to extra time, including today's match against Idaho State. Neither Weber State nor Idaho State scored in the first overtime period, forcing the game into a second ten-minute period. Weber State dominated the field in the second overtime period. They took five shots to Idaho State's zero, and had 54% of possession. Unfortunately, the 'Cats couldn't find the back of the net, and the game ended at 110 minutes in a 0-0 draw.
"We certainly would have liked to come out today and get a win, especially on our senior day. We had chances to score goals, and just couldn't convert," said Interim Head Coach, Meagan Thunell. "But, as usual, we were strong defensively. We had a solid back line and some great saves from Nikki that kept us in the game. I know a tie is always better than a loss, but I felt that we really deserved a win today. That was disappointing."
The Weber State women's soccer team will embark on their final road trip of the regular season this coming weekend to play Northern Arizona on Friday, October 25th, and Southern Utah on Sunday, October 27th.Â
