Wildcats fall to Grizzlies in tough battle

MISSOULA, MT - The Weber State women's soccer team suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to Montana this afternoon.
The Wildcats started the game with intensity, racking up two shots on goal within the first five minutes of play and holding much of the possession throughout the first half. "I thought we started strong today and controlled possession for big chunks of the game." said Interim Head Coach, Meagan Thunell. However, Montana was able to get back on their feet around the 15th minute, and possession bounced back-and-forth between the two teams. Both Weber State and Montana had opportunities to score in the first half, but neither team made it onto the scoreboard. The first half ended with a 0-0 draw.
The Wildcats didn't start the second half with as much intensity as they did the first. "We came out a little flat after the break, and Montana took advantage of that." said Thunell. In the 76th minute, Montana's Rita Lang found a volley shot that she put past Weber State senior goalkeeper Nikki Pittman into the back of the net. Though down 1-0, the Wildcats did not let down. WSU took five shots to Montana's three, and fought hard to climb their way onto the scoreboard. Unfortunately for the 'Cats, the Grizzlies thwarted any goal attempt, and the game ended 1-0 for Montana.
"It was a well-fought game. We just didn't quite generate enough offensive presence, and that's disappointing." said Thunell.
The Wildcats will head to Northern Colorado to take on the Bears this Sunday, October 6th at 1:00 pm MDT.
