Wildcats drop Big Sky heart-breaker to Bears

GREELY, CO – The Wildcats put up one of their best statistical performances of the season on Sunday afternoon, but ultimately came up just short.
The Weber State University women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to Northern Colorado in Greely, despite racking up ten shots with over half on frame.
The Wildcats (1-2-1 Big Sky, 2-9-1 overall) played very well throughout regulation play, earning over half of the possession against the Bears. WSU outshot the Bears in the second half, giving themselves many good opportunities to put a point on the board. However, at the end of 90 minutes, the game was tied 0-0 and forced into two, ten-minute golden-goal overtime periods.
In the eighth minute of the first overtime period, Northern Colorado (2-0-2 Big Sky, 4-8-3 overall) forced a handball in the Wildcat's box to give the Bears a penalty kick. UNC's Olivia Seddon converted the PK to a goal to end the game 1-0 for the Bears.
"High energy exciting games, like this one, are what conference play is all about. There is no doubt that we played well; there is no doubt that our girls left everything they had out on the field; and there is no doubt that if we continue to play that way, success will come. Ending on a PK is a hard loss to swallow. But we will use it to fuel us going forward," said Interim Head Coach Meagan Thunell.
Up next, the Weber State women's soccer team will host Idaho on Friday, October 11th at 7:00 pm MDT, and Eastern Washington on Sunday, October 13th at 12:00 pm MDT at Wildcat Soccer Field in Ogden, Utah.
