Wildcats stay hot with four set win over Bengals

OGDEN - Weber State volleyball powered through for its seventh straight victory as the Wildcats took down Idaho State in four sets. 

What head coach Jeremiah Larsen said: "I couldn't be more disappointed in how inconsistent our effort was tonight." 

How it happened: Weber State jumped out to a 10-4 lead over Idaho State in the first set. Later in the set, Idaho State pushed back with a 9-2 run to cut the Wildcats lead to just one point. Coming out of a timeout, Ashlyn Power came up with a sneak attack kill, catching the Bengals sleeping and gave WSU back the momentum. 

Megan Gneiting had a one handed block that dumped right back on to ISU's side of the floor to take it to set point. The Bengals put off the Wildcat victory with three consecutive points to trail 24-23. Gneiting was able to get an attack the Bengals couldn't control and WSU claimed the first set 25-23.

In the second set, Weber State jumped out to a 15-3 lead over the Bengals thanks to an incredible 10-0 WSU run. The Wildcats held the Bengals to just four points the remainder of the second set and WSU powered on to a 25-7 second set win. 

Idaho State started the third set out with a 7-4 lead over Weber State. The Bengals controlled most of the third set and came up with a 25-14 third set win. 

The fourth set was dead even for the two teams as it was all tied up at 13-13. Both teams were pounding through the set with grit as it came into the home stretch. Idaho State broke away with a 23-20 lead. Weber State rallied back and tied it at 23-23. Both teams committed errors to keep it tied up at 24-24. WSU finally came away with a 29-27 fourth set win. 

 Killing It: Gneiting led the way with 17 kills from 37 attacks. Rylin Roberts and Dani Nay both added 11 kills for WSU while Aubrey Saunders-Adams added 10 for WSU. In total, WSU had 60 kills from 158 total attacks with 24 errors for a.228 percentage. 

Ashlyn Power came away with 51 assists on the night but also had an impressive night on the sneaks dropping down five kills from six attacks. 

Digging it: The Wildcats had three record double digit digs. Roberts led the way with 17 while Katelyn Erwin dug out 15 and Gneiting had 12. In total, Weber State had 65 total digs on the night. 

Blocking it: Weber State had three Wildcats with five or more blocks. Saunders-Adams led the way with eight. While Hannah Hill-DeYoung and Nay each added five. WSU had 15 total team blocks. 

Doubling it: There were two Wildcats with double-doubles against Idaho State. Roberts with her 17 digs and 11 kills and Gneiting with her 17 kills and 12 digs. 

Notes to know: Weber State is now on a seven match winning streak. WSU is now 18-6 overall on the season and 9-4 in Big Sky play. 

Next Up: The Wildcats will hit  the road to Northern Colorado on Thursday Nov. 7 before traveling to Sac State Nov. 14 and Portland State Nov. 16.
