Weber State football head coach Jay Hill has been named the FCS Region 5 Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association.Â
Â
Hill is in his sixth season as head coach at Weber State and has transformed the program into a national power. He has led the Wildcats to four consecutive appearances in the FCS Playoffs, three-straight Big Sky Conference titles, three-straight 10 win seasons, and had the Wildcats ranked as high as third in the nation, all WSU school records.Â
Â
Entering the 2019 FCS Playoffs Quarterfinals, he has led the Wildcats to 46 wins in six seasons, tied for the third-most in school history. He has a career record of 46'29 and he has the second-highest winning percentage in school history at 61 percent.Â
Â
Hill has a career Big Sky record of 34-14, tied for the most wins in WSU history, and is 21-3 in Big Sky play over the last three seasons. His conference winning percentage of 70.8 percent, is the highest in Weber State history. He has also led the Wildcats to 10 or more wins in each of the last three seasons, one of just three schools in the nation to do so.Â
Â
He has also led the Wildcats to a 27-8 record at Stewart Stadium and is 26-4 at home over the last five seasons. Â
Â
This is Hill's first-ever Region Coach of the Year honor and he becomes just the second Weber State coach ever to earn the honor. Mike Price also won the honor in 1987.Â
Â
The AFCAÂ recognizes five regional Coach of the Year winners from each of the Association's five divisions: FBS, FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA. The winners will be honored at the American Football Coaches Awards on Jan. 14 at the AFCA Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.Â
