Weber State season comes to an end after five set battle with Tulsa

After trailing 0-2 in the match to Tulsa, Weber State forced the match into a fifth set but couldn't pull it out and fell in five to the Golden Hurricanes. WSU season has come to an end after a wild ride in the postseason.Â
How it happened: Tulsa jumped out to an early 7-2 lead over the Wildcats. Late in the set, Weber State made a big 15-4 run to tie the game up at 20-20. Tulsa went on to finish the set with a 25-22 win.Â
The second set started out with more energy from the Wildcats as the two teams were tied 6-6. Later in the set, Weber State scored five consecutive points that helped propel WSU to a 15-12 lead. Tulsa ended the second set on a 10-3 run to claim the set with a 25-20 score.Â
The third set was back and forth between the two teams. WSU tied it up at 11-11 thanks to three consecutive points and later the set remained tied at 19-19. Weber State broke out and took a 24-22 lead over Tulsa but Tulsa tied it up at 24-24. To close it out, Tulsa committed a service error and Kennedy Williams slammed down a kill for a 26-24 WSU third set win.Â
The Wildcats jumped out to a 12-6 lead early in the fourth set over the Golden Hurricanes thanks to a 10-1 run. Weber State never let Tulsa get any momentum in the fourth set and WSU ran away with a 25-20 fourth set win.Â
Tulsa was the first one to reach the eight point milestone with an 8-5 lead over WSU. Weber State made a big surge and tied it up at 10-10. Tulsa went on a 5-0 run to take the fifth and final set with a 15-10 score.Â
Killing it: Megan Gneiting and Dani Nay led Weber State with 18 kills each. Aubrey Saunders-Adams had a strong .491 hitting percentage on the night with nine kills from 19 attacks with just one error. In total, Weber State had 64 kills from 195 attacks with 24 errors for a .205 hitting percentage.Â
Digging it: Katelyn Erwin led WSU with a new career high of 27 digs on the night. However, several other Wildcats had impressive dig numbers. Helena Khouri, Rylin Roberts and Gneiting each added 17 digs while Ashlyn Power put up 15. In total Weber State had 104 digs on the night.Â
Doubling it: Â Weber State had just two Wildcats record a double-double. Power had 48 assists and 15 digs while Gneiting had 18 kills and 17 digs. .Â
Notes to know: Weber State has finished the season with a 26-9 overall record. The 26 wins is the second highest wins in a single season in school history. Jeremiah Larsen now has a 73-74 career record as an NCAA Division I head coach for a .496 winning percentage.Â
