Weber State downs Utah Valley 3-1

OGDEN - Weber State volleyball took down in-state foe Utah Valley in four sets on Thursday evening.
How it happened:
Weber State trailed 11-9 early in the first set when Utah Valley took off on a 6-0 run for a 17-9 score. The Wildcats had some work to do to dig themselves out of the score deficit. Megan Gneiting broke the scoring drought with a kill and Weber State kept chipping away at the score and brought it to 24-20. UVU pushed on for the 25-21 first set win.
Weber State started the second set going on a 6-1 run. Rylin Roberts had back-to-back service aces in that 6-1 run and Kennedy Williams had two kills. WSU had a 10-5 but UVU went on an 8-3 run and tied everything up at 12-12. Utah Valley stayed close and trailed just 18-17 when WSU put together a 6-2 run to take a 24-19 lead. Gneiting tipped the ball over the net to give Weber State the 25-20 second set victory.
The two teams were neck and neck late into the third set, with the score being tied or within one point late into the set. Weber State finally capture the momentum. WSU tied the match up at 16-16 and that sparked a 5-1 run. WSU brought it to set point and a Sam Schiess rocked the net with a block to give WSU the 25-21 third set victory.
The Wildcats started the fourth set off with a 8-0 run. Williams had four kills in that early run and Gneiting served seven consecutive points. After that, WSU controlled the fourth set and pushed their lead to 20-7. Weber State went on to finish the fourth set with a 25-14 score.
Killin' It: Weber State had three Wildcats with double digit kills. Williams led the way with 14 from 29 swings and only four errors for a .345 percentage. Dani Nay had 13 kills and Gneiting hit an even .500 on the day with 11 kills from 20 attacks and only one error.
In total, WSU had 50 kills from 136 attacks with 16 errors for a .250 hitting percentage.
Power put up 46 assists to add to WSU's offensive performance. Weber State had nine service aces and Rylin Roberts rocked four of them.
Diggin' it: There were two Wildcats with double digit digs. Helena Khouri led the night with 13 and Katelyn Erwin had 10. In total, WSU had 56 digs.
Blockin' it: Schiess had four blocks to lead the Wildcats but Aubrey Adams and Gneiting each had three.
Notes to know: Weber State is now 8-2 overall on the season and is on a four match winning streak.
Next Up: Weber State will return home to the Swenson Gym to host Utah State on Saturday at 6 p.m. in a White Out Match.
