Wildcats hot streak continues with three set win over USU

OGDEN - Weber State volleyball is on a roll and stayed on a hot streak by taking down in-state rival Utah State in three sets Saturday night. 

What head coach Jeremiah Larsen said: "It's never easy to play in state teams. Utah State played great and our kids stayed composed when we needed to get a much needed win."
 
How it happened:  In the first set, the two teams were tied and back and forth early. With the score at 10-10, Weber State went on a 4-0 run. After that WSU never lost the lead in the first set. WSU had a second 4-0 run later in the set bringing the score to 23-17.  Hannah DeYoung and Rylin Roberts each had kills to end the set with a 25-18 first set win. 

WSU Started the second set with a 3-0 run. Utah State did take over the lead for a quick minute early in the first set. Weber State tied it up at an 8-8 score and tied it remained, until, the Wildcats went on a 5-1 run to take a 17-14 lead. With the momentum in favor of the Wildcats, WSU went on to win the second set 25-19. 

Later in the third set, Aubrey Saunders-Adams came up with a powerful kill to tie the set at 14-14. That kill was the spark of a 4-0 run and WSU pushed to an 18-14 lead.  Weber State never looked back after that and took down Utah State in the third set with a 25-18 win and a clean three set sweep. 

Killin' It: Weber State was led by Dani Nay who rocked 16 kills from 37 swings with just two errors for a .378 percentage. Hannah DeYoung also had a stellar offensive performance with a .667 percentage. DeYoung recorded eight kills from 12 swings with no errors. .

The Wildcats ended the match with 46 kills from 130 attacks with 11 errors for a .269 percentage. 

Ashlyn Power had 39 assists on the evening. Weber State had five service aces. 

Diggin' it: Helena Khouri and Rylin Roberts led Weber State with 16 digs each. Katelyn Erwin also had double digit digs with 12 on the night. WSU ended the match with 63 total digs. 

Blockin' it: DeYoung led the way on the net coming up with four blocks including one solo and three assists. Weber State had eight total team blocks. 

Notes to know: Weber State is now 9-2 overall on the season and is on a five match winning streak. 

Next Up: The Wildcats are hitting the road to start Big Sky action next week. First, WSU takes on Northern Arizona Sept. 26 and then Southern Utah Sept. 28. WSU will return home on Oct. 5 to take take on Northern Colorado.
