OGDEN - Weber State volleyball five game win streak came to an end Thursday night as the Wildcats fell in four sets.
What head coach Jeremiah Larsen said: "I thought we got better every game. It all came down to NAU made more plays and we lost our composure at times. We will learn and look forward to respond on Saturday against SUU."
How it happened: In the first set, NAU jumped to a 12-5 lead over Weber State. The Wildcats captured the momentum and went on a 10-3 run to tie the game up at 15-15. Weber State faltered and only scored two more points the remainder of the match while NAU went on to take a 25-17 first set win.
NAU's momentum at the end of the first set carried over into the second as the Lumberjacks took a 12-7 lead over the Wildcats. Weber State didn't let that stand for long. A Rylin Roberts kill sparked some momentum for WSU as they went on a 6-1 run. It wasn't quite enough as NAU went on to finish the second set with a 25-18 win.
Weber State just needed a few sets to warm up because the third set is where the Wildcats commanded the game. The third set started off evenly at a 6-6 score and later a 10-10 score. The Wildcats started stringing together mini-runs. A little 3-0 run here and a 2-0 run there. Coming into the final points of the set, Weber State put together a 5-0 run that started with a kill by Kennedy Williams.
To seal the deal in the third set, Aubrey Saunders-Adams had back-to-back kills to give WSU the 25-17 third set win. Weber State trailed 2-1 overall in the match heading into the fourth set.
Northern Arizona took a 6-0 lead in the fourth set. WSU pushed through and was able to go on a 4-0 run to cut the deficit. Later, Weber State was able to trail by just one for a 14-13 score. At that point, Megan Gneiting had a big kill that sparked another 5-0 Wildcat run to give WSU a 18-15 lead.
NAU kept pushing and eventually re-captured the lead and took the fourth set 25-21.
