OGDEN – Weber State women's basketball fell to Montana State Saturday afternoon with final score 102-67.
What head coach Velaida Harris said: "Tough one tonight, playing the top team in the league is always difficult, but when you shoot 49% from the field I'd expect us to be in the game. We allowed them to score on 70% of their possessions in the second half. We cannot beat anyone with those numbers. As a coaching staff, we need to continue to pour into these kids and help them get better. My job is to get them to where they say they want to be. They have to understand that it's going to take work."
How it happened: Montana State jumped out on a big 11-1 run early in the first quarter. The Wildcats surged back and trailed by just four at the end of the first quarter.
The narrow deficit was short lived as Montana State took off for a 42-30 lead at half time.
Despite putting up strong numbers in the third and fourth quarter, WSU gave up too many points and Montana State went onto claim a 102-67 victory.
Leaders: Weber State was led by Daryn Hickok who had 18 points. Ula Chamberlin added 12 for the Wildcats while Jadyn Matthews recorded 11.
Matthews also led WSU on the boards with five.
Comparison: Weber State shot 49 percent from the field, 55 percent from the three and 87 percent from the free throw line. WSU ended the game with 24 total rebounds and 22 turnovers. WSU had 32 points in the paint and 18 off the bench.
Both teams had 14 total assists.
Montana State shot 59 percent from the field, 58 percent from the three point line and 79 percent from the line. The Bobcats ended the night with 22 total rebounds and nine turnovers. UM had 52 points in the paint and 22 off the bench and capitalized on 28 points from turnovers.
Notes to know: Weber State is now 3-21 overall on the season and 1-14 in Big Sky Conference play.
