Weber State falters in the fourth quarter for 82-66 loss to SUU

Weber State women's basketball had a strong first half and hung tight early in the third quarter but faltered in the fourth quarter to fall 82-66 to Southern Utah. 

How it happened: Weber State and Southern Utah were close in score over the first six minutes of the game. WSU trailed just 11-9 with 4:22 remaining in the quarter.  Southern Utah went on a 15-3 run and held the Wildcats scoreless for three minutes. WSU ended up trailing 23-11 to SUU at the end of the first quarter. 

Weber State had a big second quarter. Ula Chamberlin started the second quarter off with five consecutive points. WSU trailed by 10 when the Wildcats went on an 11-2 run. The T-Birds went scoreless for nearly four minutes but made a last second jumper at the buzzer to give SUU a 35-31 lead at the half. The Wildcats ended up outscoring the T-Birds 20-12 in the second. 

WSU kept the score deficit to single digits for the majority of the third quarter but SUU had a 7-0 run to take a 13 point lead. Southern Utah kept that momentum and had a 61-46 lead at the end of the third quarter. 

Weber State couldn't ever gain any momentum to catch up in the fourth quarter and ended up falling 82-66 to Southern Utah. 

 Leaders: Weber State was led by Ula Chamberlin who went off for 29 points for a new career high. She was 11-22 from the field, 4-10 from the three and 3-3 from the line. Liz Graves and Kayla Watkins were twins statistically on the afternoon, each having 15 points and nine rebounds. 

Comparison: Weber State shot 41 percent from the field, 29 percent from the three and 87 percent from the free throw line. WSU ended the game with 36 total rebounds, 13 assists and 20 turnovers. 

Southern Utah shot 37 percent from the field, 24 percent from the three and 75 percent from the free throw line. The Thunderbirds pulled down 42 total boards, had 11 turnovers and 14 assists. 

Notes to know: Weber State is now 3-23 overall on the season and 1-16 in Big Sky Conference play. 

Up Next: Weber State will stay on the road and head to Portland State Feb. 29 for the last road game of the season. WSU will host Idaho, March 4 and Eastern Washington on March 6 for the last home games of the season.
