Wildcat men's basketball picked second in Big Sky preseason polls

2021-22 regular season begins on November 9.
Weber State men's basketball has been picked to finish second for the 2021-22 season, according to the Big Sky preseason media and coaches polls.Â
The polls were released Thursday by the conference in advance of the season which begins on November 9.Â
Weber State has been picked first or second in the Big Sky preseason polls in 13 of the last 14 years.Â
Southern Utah was picked first in both polls. The Thunderbirds garnered eight first-place votes from the coaches and 23 in the media poll. SUU won the regular season title last year at 12-2.Â
Montana State was third in both polls and received one first-place vote in each poll. Montana is fourth in both polls with Northern Colorado fifth and Idaho State sixth.Â
Weber State has four starters and 10 total players returning off last year's squad. The Wildcats are coming off a 17-6 record during the 2020-21 season and finished in a tie for second in the Big Sky at 12-3. WSU also welcomed three Division I transfers in Koby McEwen (Marquette/Utah State), Jamison Overton (Utah Valley) and Dyson Koehler (Cal Poly.Â
Head coach Randy Rahe returns for his 16th season at Weber State and is WSU's and the Big Sky's all-time leader in coaching wins.Â
The Wildcats open the season November 4 with an exhibition with the regular season opener set for November 9 against Western Colorado. Weber State will have 15 regular season home games, including games against Utah State, BYU and Fresno State.Â
The 'Cats also play road games at Duquesne, Dixie State and Washington State, as well as three games at the Jersey Mike Classic in Florida.Â
The 'Cats will also face a 20-game Big Sky schedule with the conference tournament set for March 9-12 in Boise, Idaho.Â
