Weber State Volleyball Announces 2022 Recruiting Class
11/12/2021 5:03:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
During senior week when Weber State Volleyball will honor four players who represent WSU's most decorated senior class of all time, the Wildcats also announced the signing of four new players who will try to fill the shoes of the legends who are leaving, continue the championship legacy that's been built and take the 'Cats to new heights.
The recruiting class of 2022 has some enormous voids to fill as Weber State is set to lose some of its best players in program history, but hopes are high for the incoming recruits.
"This class has huge shoes to fill," Jeremiah Larsen said of his newest Wildcats. "We think that we have been able to commit four players with the character and work ethic to fill those shoes."
It's no secret that Weber State's program trajectory has changed immensely over the last three to four years, and is now competing for Big Sky Conference championships and winning games on the national level. This class seems to line up with the philosophy and pattern that Larsen guided this program to.
Larsen said, "We hope with every recruiting class that they will continue to build on the foundation that past players have built and continue the ideal to compete for conference championships."
ASHLEY GNEITING | 6'1" | OUTSIDE HITTER | PLEASANT GROVE, UT | PLEASANT GROVE HS
Gneiting will join Weber State after playing a crucial part in one of the more successful volleyball programs in the state of Utah during her high school tenure. Having played in the Utah state championship match in three of her four years at Pleasant Grove High School, Gneiting has a championship DNA that Weber State wanted to bring to Ogden.
She will be the third Gneiting sister that head coach Jeremiah Larsen has coached, the most recent being Megan who ended up getting over 1,000 career kills and helped serve as a catalyst to start WSU's volleyball renaissance.
SAANE KATOA | 6'1" | MIDDLE BLOCKER | WOODS CROSS, UT | WOODS CROSS HS
Â
As a sophomore in high school, Katoa joined a Woods Cross team that was struggling to get wins. With age and maturation, Katoa and the program saw improvement every year that she was at Woods Cross High School. The program won 11 games in her sophomore year, 19 in her junior year, and finished off with 20 in her final season at WCHS. She brings a ton of athleticism to the team and can touch over ten feet when she jumps.
Â
Katoa finished her time in high school averaging nearly two and a half kills per set, and with 98 total blocks in her three seasons at Woods Cross.
Â
ROSE MOORE | 6'1" | SETTER | LEHI, UT | SKYRIDGE HS
Â
Moore has size that is nearly unseen for a setter in the Big Sky Conference, and she has excellent touch on the volleyball that allows her to get the ball where it needs to go. She prides herself on her hard work, and when you look at her list of accolades and her career stats, the hard work manifests itself.
Â
Her lethal combination of excellent setting skills, size, and the versatility and athleticism to play as a pin hitter if needed all made Moore a target for multiple power five, top 25 teams in the country.
Â
BRIELLE RUECKERT | 6'2" | MIDDLE BLOCKER/OPPOSITE | OREM, UT | TIMPVIEW HS
When watching tape of Timpview High School over the last four years, Rueckert immediately stands out. She's tall, an incredible athlete who touches well over ten feet when jumping, and she knows how to win. She was a part of the 2020 Utah 5A State Championship team, and from her sophomore year on, Timpview High won at least 22 games each season.
She played in 284 sets in her high school career and came up with 203 total blocks, and offensively she was on a completely different level than nearly everyone else on the court, averaging a .434 hitting percentage for her high school career. A career which culminated with over 300 kills in her senior season. Rueckert is another player who garnered attention from plenty of top 25 and power five teams across the country.
