Wildcats Continue Home Stretch Against Pacific
12/21/2021 11:14:00 AM | Women's Basketball
After a Saturday afternoon thriller that left the Weber State Wildcats with a 65-63 victory over a former 'Cat and the New Mexico State Aggies, WSU is once again ready to defend their home floor as they get set to do battle with the Pacific Tigers at the Dee Events Center.Â
The 'Cats are coming off their second straight win, a winning streak that began once returning home for their six-game home stretch. With two of those games down, the Wildcats have Pacific, Montana State, Montana, and Idaho State left before they have to hit the road again - each of those opponents will walk through the tunnels of the Dee itching to end Weber State's 4-0 record at home.Â
Wildcats To Watch For
Jadyn Matthews has been the leading scorer for the Wildcats throughout the majority of the young season, she's averaging 13.6 points per game along with 6.6 rebounds.
Right alongside her has been Daryn Hickok who is scoring 12.9 points per outing and pulling down 7.7 boards.Â
Also, averaging double figures for WSU is Kori Pentzer who poured in 18 points against NM State and is putting up 11.1 points per game.Â
Meanwhile, Emma Torbert is flirting with a double-digit average in scoring with 9.9 points per outing to go along with 6.9 rebounds. She's scored double figures in 6 of their 10 games.Â
What You Can Expect On Defense
Head Coach Velaida Harris believes that this squad is best when they are engaged on the defensive end and because of that there will be a ton of full-court pressure where typically Hickok or Laura Taylor will pick up the defender no later than after they cross the nearest free throw line. WSU prides itself on their ability to defend in space and make their man defense feel like a zone with how well they play the passing lanes, the team feeds off that brand of basketball with passionate defensive intensity.Â
What You Can Expect On OffenseÂ
Whether it's Matthews, Torbert, or Ava Williams - the 'Cats have found success when residing in the paint. Lurking along the perimeter will be Taylor and Kori Pentzer ready to let a three-point shot fly if given the opportunity while Hickok will attack the basket and typically either get fouled, finish the lay-up or grab an offensive rebound.Â
About Pacific
The Tigers come into the game with a 2-8 record and have lost their last seven games.Â
How To Watch
