Wildcats End Road Trip With Loss To CSU

12/8/2021 9:25:00 PM | Women's Basketball

On Wednesday night, the Weber State Wildcats fell to the Colorado State Rams 73-60.

This game marks the end of a four-game road stretch that began in Davis, CA, and concluded in Fort Collins, CO; if that stretch felt long then their next one will feel like a lifetime. They return home for six straight games ranging from Dec. 11 to Jan. 8 as they look to avoid suffering their first loss at the Dee Events Center.

As for their battle against CSU, the Wildcats ran into a team that is currently playing a very high level of basketball. The Rams have only suffered one loss this season which came at the hands of a nationally ranked Louisville squad, other than that they had cruised past each of their opponents heading into this matchup. Their early success along with playing on their home floor played key factors in dooming the Wildcats, but not without a fight.

The Wildcats came out in the opening minutes of action playing really well as Daryn Hickok chipped in six opening quarter points. Eventually, though, Colorado State was able to find momentum and nearly had it swinging completely their way until Emri Lovell drilled a three-pointer as the period expired to trim the Rams' lead to 18-10.

In the following quarter, CSU was able to take control of the game as they jumped out to a 37-22 lead heading into the half despite 11 points from Hickok and 5 from Emma Torbert. The Wildcats continued to fight but were unable to get close enough to pose a threat as they eventually fell 73-60.

Despite the loss, there once again was a big performance from Hickok who finished the game with 22 points on 8-11 shooting to go along with 11 rebounds. This marks the third straight game where she's racked up over 20 points and it seems as if she has found her footing on the offensive end.

Now that the road trip has finally come to an end, WSU will return home to battle Tarleton State on Saturday, Dec. 11 at noon on ESPN+.
