Warnick sets PR at Iowa State Classic

AMES, IOWA - The Wildcat men's indoor track and field had a great showing at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa on February 12 and 13. The meet was hosted by Iowa State on the coldest weekend of the year, but that didn't stop the Wildcats from competing well.

"I love how all of our guys took advantage of their opportunity to race at sea level with some great competition," said head men's coach, Corbin Talley. "Taylor and Christian started us off strong in the 5,000 meters with two PR's and two WSU All-Time marks. The women had set a nice tone for us in their 5ks, and the guys fed off their energy."

Tracen Warnick set a new personal record in the mile run, earning fourth place with a time of 4:01.76. This time ranks 3rd on the Weber State All-Time indoor track records.

"I was very proud of Tracen in the mile. He risked a bit and it paid off with Weber's fastest mile in nearly 20 years. It was a big PR and shows that Tracen has sub 4:00 potential. He's been very focused and worked extremely hard to get here," said Talley.

Austin Byrer earned first place in the 3,000 meter run, coming in at 8:05.67 and setting a new PR. This time places Byrer 3rd on the Weber State All-Time records. Tracen Warnick also competed in the 3,000 meters, and finished in 10th place with a time of 8:26.18.

"Austin capped things off with one last WSU 3# performance in the 3000m at 8:05. He showed a lot of toughness with his kick, running a 59.2 final 400m to get the win. A patient, gritty performance for Austin."

Taylor Dillion competed in the 5,000 meter run, and placed sixth with a time of 14:11.68. Christian Allen placed eighth with a time of 14:19.06.

"Taylor did very well considering he was flat-tired near the beginning and his shoe came off about 3000m into the race. It was also fun watching Christian and Summer Allen both make our top 10 list on the same night--definitely the fastest married couple in the NCAA!"

"I think this meet really gives us some momentum, inspiration, and confidence going into the final two weeks before the Big Sky XC Championships (February 27 in Ogden)," said Talley.

Go Wildcats!
