Wildcats set new PRs at UNLV Invitational

3/21/2021 10:48:00 AM | Women's Track & Field

LAS VEGAS, NV - The Wildcats competed well at the UNLV Spring Invitational in sunny Las Vegas from March 18th-20th. Weber State had many great individual performances, which led to the Wildcats' third place team finish.

"The conditions were very windy at 20 mph, and then 23 mph in the afternoon. The wind really wrecks havoc on the throws, long and high jumps, but we had some really great efforts," said head coach, Paul Pilkington. "We had some great highlights coming from the field and track events. Lexie Thompson broke the stadium record by 35 seconds with a 16.14. That time is #4 on the all-time list, and currently #2 in the NCAA. Billie Hatch came in second and set a PR."

Day 1 & 2
Sophie Herbert did well in the women's hammer, earning 11th place with a mark of 51.06m. Deidre Wilson came in 14th place with a 48.03m mark, and Alyssa Hansen came in 15th with a 46.85m mark.

Day 3
The Wildcats did well in the women's 5000 meters earning first and second place. Lexie Thompson came in first with a time of 16:14.09, and Billie Hatch finished second with a time of 16:47.30. Jessica Hill finished 10th at 18:32.01; Shanee Harris finished 11th at 18:35.72; and Allie Green finished 13th with a time of 18:47.69.

In the women's 4x100m relay, the Weber State team finished 10th with a time of 48.83. The team consisted of Teal, Powell, Spears-Rogers, and Frank.

Cheyenne Leatham finished first in the women's 1500 meters, crossing the finish line with a time of 4:39.23. Bailey Winter finished fifth with a time of 4:50.90, and Rebekah Geddes finished seventh at 4:52.37. Klarissa Andersen finished in 13th at 5:02.09 and Tess McInelly finished 14th at 5:02.33.

Cidnee Davies-Bohn finished 10th in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 14.72, and Andee Brown finished 16th with a time of 15.15.

Emily Morgan-King competed in the 100 meter race, and finished seventh with a time of 11.72. Amy Teal finished 22nd at 12.48, and Brianna Powell finished 25th at 12.57.

Kate Sorensen finished first in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line at 59.56. Andee Brown finished in 16th at 1:06.91, and Brittany Cardall finished 22nd with a time of 1:10.59.

In the 200 meters, Emily Morgan-King finished eighth with a time of 24.09. Bailey Wall competed in the 3000 meter steeple and finished third with a time of 11:01.37.

The Wildcats finished eighth in the 4x400m relay, crossing the finish line at 3:59.02. The team consisted of Cardall, Andrewsen, Sorensen, and Geddes.

Kapua Pulotu finished fourth in the women's shot put, earning a 14.20m mark. Pulotu earned sixth in the discus, with a mark of 45.45m. Cidnee Davies-Bohn finished sixth in the long jump, earning a mark of 5.73m.

In the javelin Liz Fink finished fifth with a mark of 43.92, Lauren Olsen finished eighth at 42.28m, Marissa Schmidt finished ninth at 40.46m, and Alyssa Hansen finished 13th with a 38.17m mark.

"We had a lot of PRs, including Cheyenne Leatham in the 1500m, Sophia Herbert in the weight throw, and Kapua Poluto in the shot put. Kapua moved up to #8 on the WSU all-time list and her mark is currently #2 in the Big Sky Conference. Liz Fink moved up to #5 in the new javelin, and Paige van Meeteren performed well in the high jump despite the strong winds," said Pilkington. "We've got some work to do in some areas, but I was happy with how the women performed."

Up next, the Wildcats will head to Orem, Utah to compete in the UVU Invitational on April 2nd and 3rd.
