Wildcats fall to NAU in first round of Big Sky Tournament

Boise, Idaho - Weber State women's basketball saw its season come to an end Monday night with an 80-68 defeat to Northern Arizona in the first round of the Big Sky Tournament in Boise, Idaho.
Seventh seed NAU never trailed in the game and jumped out to a 22-12 lead after the first quarter. The Lumberjacks led 39-26 at halftime and the Wildcats were never able to get the lead under 10 points.
Four Wildcats scored in double figures with Jadyn Matthews leading the way. Matthews tied her career-high with 17 points on 7 of 8 shooting and grabbed six rebounds. Aloma Solovi added 13 points and Daryn Hickok also had 13 points and seven rebounds. Emma Torbert had 12 points and also had seven rebounds.
The Wildcats shot 44 percent from the field and had seven 3-pointers, but WSU committed 19 turnovers, which NAU turned into 18 points. The Lumberjacks made 12 3-pointers and had seven steals.
"I'm proud of these young women in our program," said head coach Velaida Harris. "It has been such a hard season for everyone but I'm really proud of how they kept fighting. The group you saw at the end I'm very excited and proud to move forward with. As tired as they were, they kept fighting and kept competing."
The loss ends WSU's season with a 2-20 overall record.
