Historic Weber State season comes to an end in NCAA Tournament

Wildcats finish record-setting season 19-2 after loss to No. 1 Wisconsin
OMAHA, Neb. - After making history on Wednesday with their first ever win in the NCAA Tournament, Weber State's season came to an end on Thursday after a hard-fought 3-0 loss to Wisconsin, the No. 1 team in the nation. The Badgers won the match 25-17, 25-19, 25-15.Â
Weber State hit .175 for the match and had four blocks. The 'Cats were led by Big Sky MVP Rylin Adams with 13 kills and nine digs. Dani Nay added eight kills and eight digs. Sam Schiess had six kills and Ashlyn Power had 10 digs for the Wildcats.Â
The Badgers hit .408 and had 11 blocks. Wisconsin is the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and is now 15-0 record. The Badgers advanced to the championship match of the NCAA Tournament last season.Â
Wisconsin never trailed in the first set. Weber State fought back and took the lead in the second set at 12-11. The score was tied 16-16 before the Badgers closed out the set on a 9-3 run to take a 2-0 lead.Â
"Wisconsin is obviously a really good team and it was a good opportunity for our team to compete and I thought we did a nice job," said WSU head coach Jeremiah Larsen. "We played really well in the second set but they just made more plays down the end."Â
The match brought to an end a season unlike any in Weber State history. The Wildcats finished the unprecedented spring season with a 19-2 record and won their first-ever Big Sky regular season title, won the Big Sky Tournament for just the second time in school history to advance to their second ever NCAA Tournament.Â
With a 3-1 win over Bowling Green on Wednesday, Weber State won its first-ever match in the NCAA Tournament.Â
"I'm so proud of our team and what they have accomplished this season through all the things that were thrown at them," Larsen said. "We had a vision and a plan to build this program and build a culture of success and we were able to accomplish many goals this season."
