Wildcats Put Up Strong Performances In Season Opener

Ogden, UT - The Weber State women's tennis team had their first home match of the 2022 season at the Ogden Athletic Club this Saturday morning.
Weber State started the day off strong by sweeping the three doubles matches to take the 1-0 lead. Pei-Hsuan Kuo and Li Yang Ping An defeated Alexandra Hildreth and Alysha Damron 6-0 in the No. 3 spot. Following their teammates lead in the No. 2 spot, Yuuna Ukita and Megan Lombardi secured the advantage with their 6-1 victory. At the No. 1 spot, Sicely Ferreira and Megan Davies defeated Juliana Hanzoruk and Rachel Mellor 7-6.
The Wildcats continued their strong play heading into singles. Megan Davies quickly secured their second point on court 1 when she swept her opponent 6-1, 6-0. In the No. 4 spot, Megan Lombardi took her match against Juliana Honczaruk 6-0, 6-4.
Pei-Hsuan Kuo defeated Angelina Amelkina 6-0, 6-2, and Sicely Ferreira battled to defeat the Trailblazers Sabrina Longson 6-2, 0-6, 6-2. To end the day, in the No. 6 spot Li Yang Ping An defeated Alysha Damron in three sets 6-3, 7-6, 9-7 making the final score 6-1 for the Wildcats.
"We played our first match of the season with a few jitters, but overall did what we needed to do," said head coach RuthAnn Allen.
"We have been working on improving our doubles positioning and we did a better job of that in our match. I am happy with the progress the team is making in playing intelligently and competitively."
Next Up: The Wildcats head to Las Vegas, NV on Feb 4 to continue their 2022 season against UNLV.
