Weber State Falls 75-85 Against SUU In Overtime

Ogden, UT - The Weber State women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker in overtime as they went up against the league-leading Southern Utah Thunderbirds this Monday evening at the Dee Events Center.

How it happened: The Wildcats started strong looking to break their four-game losing streak and played with a lot of energy as they led 19-14 ending the first quarter. Emma Torbert had the early hot hand earning the 'Cats their first seven points. Weber State ended the first quarter shooting nearly 54%.

Weber State held the lead for over 28 minutes in the game and held the Thunderbirds to 3 of 20 shooting in the fourth quarter, but a 3-pointer by SUU's Samantha Johnston with five seconds left tied the game. The 'Cats had a chance at taking the lead at the end of regulation, but an untimely turnover sent the game into overtime.

Numbers to know: The 'Cats had another stellar performance by Jayden Matthews, who ended the game with a team-leading 20 points and 13 rebounds, shooting 6 of 7 from the field, and 8 of 10 from the free-throw line. Matthews and Emma Torbert are providing a powerful 1-2 punch for the Wildcats with Torbert ending the game with 17 points in 32 minutes of play.
