The Need To Know: Wildcats Set To Defend Dee Against Idaho State
1/8/2022 11:33:00 AM | Women's Basketball
After not playing for a week, the red-hot Weber State Wildcats are set to return to the hardwood to battle against the Idaho State Bengals. Weber State will come into the game boasting a 3-1 record in conference play and are 7-6 on the year overall. In their last two outing, the Wildcats sent both Montana and Montana State back home with losses which currently has them riding a two game winning streak.Â
Each of those games featured special outings from a 'Cat as Daryn Hickok torched MSU for 28 points along with 9 rebounds while Kori Pentzer gave the Grizzlies a 20-point showcase; there's no suprise that they reside in the next section.Â
Wildcats To Watch For
Hickok's currently leads the team in scoring with 14.0 points per outing and she also pulls down 7.8 rebounds per game.Â
Jadyn Matthews has been flat-out dominant as well, averaging 12.8 points per game to along with 8.8 rebounds.
After heating up both the Bobcats and the city of Ogden, Kori Pentzer now averages 11.3 points per game and still is the leader in minutes.Â
Meanwhile, Emma Torbert is capable of leading the 'Cats in scoring on any given night and is averaging 11.1 points per game to go along with 7.3 boards. She's scored in double figures in 9 of their 14 games.
What You Can Expect On Defense
Head Coach Velaida Harris believes that this squad is best when they are engaged on the defensive end and because of that there will be a ton of full-court pressure where typically Hickok or Laura Taylor will pick up the defender no later than after they cross the nearest free throw line. WSU prides itself on their ability to defend in space and make their man defense feel like a zone with how well they play the passing lanes, the team feeds off that brand of basketball with passionate defensive intensity.Â
What You Can Expect On OffenseÂ
Whether it's Matthews, Torbert, or Ava Williams - the 'Cats have found success when residing in the paint. Lurking along the perimeter will be Taylor and Kori Pentzer ready to let a three-point shot fly if given the opportunity while Hickok will attack the basket and typically either get fouled, finish the lay-up or grab an offensive rebound.Â
About Idaho State
The Bengals come into the Dee Events Center boasting the same record as WSU as they hold a 7-6 record on the year and are 3-1 against Big Sky foes.Â
