OGDEN, Utah – The back-to-back Big Sky Conference champion Weber State Wildcats and Head Coach Jeremiah Larsen announced two new signees this last weekend.

Larsen, a coach who has changed the fortunes of Wildcat volleyball and turned them into perennial postseason competitors, stressed that the two newest Wildcats exhibit the type of character that the Wildcats like to have in their program. He also noted that they are hard workers and those are two of the characteristics that the program values as much or more than skill set, alone.

IOANA "NANA" ASIATA

Hometown: Herriman, UT
High School: Herriman High School
Position: Outside Hitter

Asiata comes to Weber State after leading her high school team to second seed in the Utah 6A High School tournament. She ranked fifth in the state with a .399 hitting percentage and brings excellent athleticism and verticality to her position on the left pin. She possesses a strong arm and is known for being a good blocker and solid overall defender.

Why Weber State?

"I chose Weber State for the dedication and Commitment they had to better my skills in every way they could. If one thing was fixed, it was on to the next."

Miah's Assessment:

"Nana is extremely athletic. You're looking at a kid that's a big jumper with a big arm. She's extremely strong. She has a competitive edge about her that we really love and that is very similar to a lot of the kids in our gym, already. She goes out and competes against whomever she plays against. She hates to lose and loves to win."

ALI WIEST

Hometown: Mesa, Arizona
High School: Sandra Day O'Connor HS
Position: Outside Hitter

Wiest is a 6'0" outside hitter who has a fantastic swing and a strong arm. One of her greatest strengths is that she can play all six rotations and is a strong passer. Having played her club volleyball with Arizona Storm Elite – one of the top clubs in Arizona – Wiest has developed into a great team leader and a fierce competitor who should fit right in with the Wildcat family.

Why Weber State?

"I chose Weber State because of the girls and the coaching style. I love coaches that hold their players to a high standard and will always pus you to do your best but will still joke around with you and that is exactly how the Weber State coaches are. I wanted to leave Arizona and get all the seasons and Weber was the perfect place for me. Everyone was so welcoming the second I got there so I knew it was going to be my home."

Miah's Assessment:

"Ali is a long outside hitter that is a really physical and athletic kid with a dynamic arm. The thing that sets her apart is when she plays, she plays like she loves the game of volleyball. She loves what she does. That stood out to us immensely when we watched her play. Her teammates love her and she loves to play the game of volleyball and get better every single day."
